Albemarle names BHP executive Ragnar Udd as CEO
Albemarle said on Thursday it has appointed BHP executive Ragnar Udd as its CEO, tapping an industry veteran to lead the world's largest lithium producer.
Udd, currently BHP's chief commercial officer, will take on the new role on February 1, 2027, replacing Kent Masters.
The appointment comes after BHP's internal memo showed Udd would leave the mining giant at the end of January to pursue a new opportunity.
At BHP, Udd has overseen global sales and marketing, procurement, maritime activities and commodities-market strategy. He previously led BHP's Americas business, including its copper and potash operations.
Masters, who has led Albemarle since April 2020, will become executive chairperson and remain in that role through the company's 2027 annual shareholder meeting, after which the board will review his position annually.
He previously served as the company's lead independent director.
Shares of the company were down 2.3% in premarket trading.
