African growth in the spotlight

SHOWING UP The Electra Mining Event boasted many suppliers like BMG who highlighted the R 250 000 Timken 22 3500 split roller bearing
Africa’s largest specialist industrial distributor and a key supplier of major engineering components – including industrial and automotive bearings – BMG Group reiterated its extensive African footprint of 81 branches at Electra Mining Africa 2026.
It also boasts nine additional official distributors through the black-empowered specialist distributor network Africa Maintenance Equipment.
“BMG Group offers a comprehensive portfolio of bearing brands across Africa, including official partnerships and distribution agreements with several of the world’s most respected manufacturers,” BMG marketing executive Darryn Wright told Engineering News during the event.
BMG’s footprint spans countries such as Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, Ghana, Tanzania and Zambia.
Wright noted that mining remains one of the primary foci of BMG’s operations, despite the company’s expansion into additional sectors and the diversification of its products and services in response to evolving client needs.
In South Africa, mining plays a big role in the economy, comprising about 7% of the country’s total economic output.
For BMG, mining is especially important: “It makes up a considerable portion of our sales,” Wright elaborated.
Electra Objectives
During the event, Wright highlighted the Timken 22 3500 split roller bearing, which was on display at the BMG stand, valued at about R250 000.
The Timken split cylindrical roller bearing is used in heavy industrial and marine applications where bearings are “trapped” between large pieces of equipment and difficult to reach.
Wright stressed that BMG’s primary objective for Electra Mining Africa 2026 was to reaffirm its brand promise – a key focus at previous events – “centred on delivering high-quality components, technical expertise and a particular emphasis on delivering superior service to our customers”.
BMG not only represents leading global brands supplied to various markets, but its team also comprises highly skilled engineers, including specialised professionals in integrated systems and related fields.
“These experts enable us to add significant value to the industry through innovative solutions, complemented by superior customer service.”
Wright added that BMG proactively engages with clients, including through its provision of on-demand support for mining operations and its dispatching of splicing teams to quarries.
The company’s value proposition extends beyond supplying quality components; it also provides comprehensive turnkey engineering solutions that span complex maintenance life cycles.
“We are committed to ongoing support and partnership, emphasising a ‘cradle-to-grave’ approach rather than a transient service. This is the core message we aim to communicate,” he concluded.
