An agreement to acquire peristaltic hose pump and progressive cavity pump technologies, as well as related aftermarket spare parts and service offering capabilities, from global technology leader for processing solutions Valmet, has been signed by minerals processing and metals solutions provider Metso.

The acquisition strengthens Metso’s capabilities in slurry handling by broadening its portfolio with advanced pumping solutions for demanding process conditions in mining and industrial applications.

“The acquired business has a solid and growing installed base, generating stable aftermarket spare parts and service revenues,” said Metso.

Additionally, the added hose pump technologies are particularly suited to transferring and dosing of abrasive, corrosive, viscous and crystallising slurries in heavy mining applications where continuous flow, reliable performance, efficiency, ease of maintenance, and long wear life are critical.

“Typical applications include thickener underflow, filter feed, flocculant dosing, slurry sampling and re-circulation,” Metso noted.

“We are excited to welcome the new offerings as well as the team and their expertise to Metso. This acquisition strengthens our ability to deliver end-to-end slurry handling solutions, with a stronger and [complementary] offering in demanding heavy-duty applications. In addition, it enhances our aftermarket and service capabilities as a long-term full life- cycle partner in key mining markets globally,” stated Metso pumps business line VP Tiago Marques Oliveira.

The acquired products will be integrated into Metso’s pumps portfolio and rebranded under the Metso name. The products are currently sold under the Flowrox brand. Production will be transferred to Metso’s manufacturing facilities in Lappeenranta, Finland, with related personnel transferring to the same site.

Metso offers complete slurry handling solutions, including equipment, spares and optimisation and maintenance services. Its portfolio covers slurry pumps, pipes, hoses, valves and hydrocyclones, supported by a global manufacturing and service network that is located near key mining markets.

The acquisition was expected to close on October 1. At the time of writing, the parties had agreed to not disclose the transaction value.

“With this acquisition, Metso enhances its ability to deliver comprehensive slurry handling and pumping solutions across the full mining flowsheet,” Metso concluded.
