Vale Base Metals

Vale Base Metals is the base metals division of Vale, a Brazilian multinational mining corporation. The division is responsible for the production and marketing of nickel, copper, cobalt and platinum-group metals. Vale Base Metals operates primarily in Canada, with significant operations in the Sudbury Basin of Ontario, one of the world's most prolific mining regions. The division's portfolio includes several major mines and processing facilities that produce battery-grade nickel and other critical minerals essential for electric vehicle batteries and renewable energy technologies. Vale Base Metals is a major global supplier of nickel, ranking among the world's largest producers of the metal. The division also produces copper as a by-product at several of its operations. Key assets include the Copper Cliff and Coleman mines in Sudbury, as well as the Voisey's Bay mine in Newfoundland and Labrador. Vale Base Metals has positioned itself as a strategic supplier of materials for the energy transition, with a focus on low-carbon nickel production. The division operates as part of Vale's broader portfolio, which also includes iron ore and other mineral commodities.
