Stuart Tonkin

Stuart Tonkin is the executive chairperson of Northern Star Resources, an Australian gold mining company headquartered in Perth. He assumed the executive chairperson role in 2024 following the departure of the company's previous chief executive. Tonkin has been associated with Northern Star Resources for several years, having previously served on the company's board. His appointment to the executive chairperson position came during a period of significant corporate activity for Northern Star, including engagement with activist investors and strategic reviews of the company's operations. Northern Star Resources is one of Australia's largest gold producers, with operations spanning Western Australia and internationally. Tonkin's leadership has focused on operational performance, capital allocation and shareholder value creation in a competitive gold mining sector. He brings extensive experience in the resources sector to the role, having held various positions in mining and finance throughout his career. The executive chairperson role combines oversight of board governance with direct involvement in strategic execution. Tonkin's tenure has coincided with Northern Star's efforts to optimise its portfolio of gold assets, including operations in the Kalgoorlie region and elsewhere. His leadership is closely watched by investors and analysts tracking Australia's gold mining industry.
