South Carolina

South Carolina is a state in the south-eastern United States. Its capital is Columbia, while Charleston is its largest city and a major port. The state has a population of about 5.3-million and an economy historically rooted in agriculture, textiles and manufacturing. In recent decades South Carolina has diversified into automotive production, aerospace, advanced manufacturing and logistics, attracting significant foreign direct investment from companies including BMW, Volvo, Boeing and Michelin. The state's coastal location and port infrastructure support trade and distribution activities. Tourism, driven by coastal resorts and historic sites, also contributes to the economy. South Carolina is governed as a US state with a bicameral legislature and an elected governor. It is part of the broader south-eastern economic corridor and benefits from relatively low business costs and a growing skilled workforce. The state has increasingly positioned itself as a hub for advanced industries, including emerging sectors such as critical minerals processing and technology manufacturing supported by federal incentives.
