Prairie Lithium Project

The Prairie Lithium Project is a lithium extraction facility located in Saskatchewan, Canada. The project is operated by Prairie Lithium, a subsidiary of Standard Lithium, and is situated in the Williston Basin region. It employs direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology to recover lithium from subsurface brines, representing a novel approach to lithium production in North America. The facility aims to produce battery-grade lithium compounds to supply the growing electric vehicle and energy storage markets. Engineering work for the project has involved Samuel Engineering, and the development has attracted attention from regional stakeholders including SaskPower. Saskatchewan's geological formations contain significant lithium-bearing brines, positioning the province as an emerging lithium production hub. The project forms part of Canada's broader strategy to develop domestic critical minerals supply chains and reduce reliance on imported battery materials. Development of the Prairie Lithium Project reflects increasing investment in North American lithium resources as demand for electric vehicle batteries accelerates globally.
