NTPC

NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) is an Indian state-owned power generation company headquartered in New Delhi, India. It operates primarily in the thermal power sector, running coal-fired and gas-fired plants across the country, while also expanding into hydropower and renewable energy. The company is majority owned by the Government of India and is listed on Indian stock exchanges, making it one of the largest listed utilities in the country. NTPC is the biggest electricity generator in India by installed capacity, supplying power to state utilities and industrial customers nationwide. It relies heavily on coal as a feedstock, sourcing large volumes from Coal India and other domestic and imported suppliers, linking its fortunes closely to the thermal power and coal sectors. In recent years the company has set targets to diversify its generation mix, investing in solar, wind and hydropower projects to reduce its carbon footprint. NTPC employs a large workforce and operates numerous subsidiaries and joint ventures covering generation, trading, consultancy and renewable-energy development. It plays a central role in India's electricity security and economic development, given the country's reliance on thermal power for baseload supply. The company was established in 1975 to accelerate power development following nationalisation of the sector, and has since grown into a diversified energy conglomerate spanning multiple generation technologies.
