McKinsey & Company

McKinsey & Company is a global management consulting firm advising businesses, governments and institutions on strategy, operations and organisational performance. It is headquartered in New York and operates through offices across dozens of countries, including several in Africa. The firm is privately owned by its partners and is not listed on any stock exchange. Its core services span strategy consulting, digital transformation, operations improvement and organisational design, delivered through industry and functional practices covering sectors such as construction, mining, financial services and energy. McKinsey is widely regarded as one of the largest and most influential strategy consultancies globally, alongside peers such as Boston Consulting Group and Bain & Company. The firm generates revenue in the tens of billions of dollars a year and employs tens of thousands of consultants worldwide. It publishes widely cited research and insight papers, including work on cost overruns and risk management in capital projects, which is frequently referenced in construction and infrastructure sector commentary. McKinsey has advised on large-scale infrastructure and construction programmes, including efforts to improve project delivery and reduce cost and schedule overruns. The firm was founded in 1926 by University of Chicago professor James O McKinsey. It has since grown into one of the most prominent names in global consulting, though it has also faced scrutiny over aspects of its client work and governance practices.
