Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a city in the state of Nevada, in the western United States. It is the seat of Clark County and the most populous city in Nevada, though not the state capital, which is Carson City. The city is globally known as a hub for gaming, entertainment, hospitality and conventions, with a casino and resort industry that underpins its economy. Its population exceeds 600 000, with the greater metropolitan area considerably larger, supported by tourism, conventions and a growing technology and logistics sector. Beyond its entertainment reputation, Las Vegas has developed into a significant data-centre and digital-infrastructure location, benefiting from low-cost power, favourable tax conditions and connectivity, attracting companies such as Equinix. The city hosts major trade shows and technology conferences, including events related to electrification, data centres and digital infrastructure, drawing international business delegations. Its desert climate and growing population have also made water and energy efficiency notable considerations in its infrastructure planning. Founded in 1905 as a railroad town, Las Vegas grew rapidly through the twentieth century with the legalisation of gambling in 1931 and subsequent development of the Strip. It remains a prominent example of a city whose economic identity has diversified from tourism toward technology and business services.
