Carester

Carester is a South African mining and mineral processing company focused on rare earths and critical minerals development. The company operates in the rare earths sector, which has gained strategic importance as countries seek to diversify supply chains away from Chinese dominance. Carester is involved in projects in South Africa's Northern Cape province, including the Zandkopsdrift rare earths deposit, and has interests in the Qala Shallows project. The company is positioned within the emerging African rare earths industry, which is attracting attention from international investors and governments seeking to secure supplies of elements essential for electric vehicles, renewable energy technologies and defence applications. Carester's activities include exploration, project development and engagement with infrastructure corridors such as the Lobito Corridor, which links mineral-rich regions of southern Africa to Atlantic export routes. The company's leadership includes Tim George and it operates alongside other rare earths developers such as Frontier Rare Earths and Pensana in the southern African region. Carester is headquartered in the Johannesburg area and represents part of South Africa's effort to capitalise on its rare earths endowment. The company's projects are at various stages of development as it works to bring rare earths production capacity online in a market characterised by long lead times and significant capital requirements.
