World must get more serious about fighting biodiversity loss, pollution, climate change

The triple planetary crises of biodiversity loss, pollution, and climate change simply have to be taken far more seriously. Where steps have been taken, progress has been made but never at an intensity that meets the global targets set. As we know from COP and also from this month’s Oppenheimer Research Conference, we need to act for all life on earth with the urgency that this moment demands. Let’s do our best to at least try to metaphorically emulate those plants, known as pioneer species, that have evolved to grow back first after wildfires and then enrich the soil for the plants that follow. Let’s be pioneer species by collectively ensuring that the COP targets set are at least met.
