Tyre maintenance solutions spotlighted

TYRE MONITORING KalPRO TireSight identifies tyre-related risks such as hot spots, tread damage and belt edge separations as trucks pass through inspection stations without stopping
The offering brings together practical innovation tools, autonomous inspection technology, maintenance planning and sustainability solutions to help mines make better decisions, reduce risk and keep trucks operating safely and productively.
A key focus of KalPRO is autonomous inspections and the ability to turn data into action. KalPRO TireSight, powered by heavy vehicle inspections company Pitcrew AI, identifies tyre-related risks such as hot spots, tread damage and belt edge separations as trucks pass through inspection stations without stopping.
KalPRO HaulSight extends that visibility to the haul road, using LiDAR and camera sensors mounted on trucks to detect hazards such as spillage, undulations, high G-force zones and non-compliant berms.
Together, Kal Tire says these systems give mine teams visibility into two connected parts of the haulage operation: the tyres on the truck and the road conditions affecting them.
The strength of these technology offerings is the workflow around them, says Kal Tire, explaining that autonomous inspection systems, AI-driven detection, 24/7 condition monitoring analysts, Kal Tire’s TOMS (tyre and operations management system) and site-level planning all work together to filter findings, validate priorities and trigger the right next step.
This combination of technology and human expertise helps site teams focus on the issues that matter most, whether that means stopping a truck, planning a repair during scheduled maintenance or addressing road conditions that contribute to tyre damage and component stress.
TOMS, says Kal Tire, is central to this connected workflow. At its core, TOMS is a maintenance planning system that integrates tyre work into broader maintenance activities so sites can make informed, collaborative decisions that support fleet availability.
With embedded AI, TOMS aggregates inputs from inspections, sensors and operational systems to provide a clearer picture of tyre condition, performance and upcoming maintenance requirements.
TOMS also integrates with dispatch, tyre pressure monitoring systems and enterprise systems, while supporting mobile inspection and tyre change data collection, near real-time dashboards and operational reporting.
Tech on Show
At EMA, visitors to Kal Tire’s stand can also expect to see the company’s latest tooling innovations, with a focus on practical solutions designed for the realities of mine maintenance. Two featured innovations are the KalPRO Goliath-25 and the latest generation of KalPRO Argus.
Goliath-25 was developed to provide an additional layer of protection during tyre inflation, one of the highest-risk activities in tyre maintenance. Designed to wrap around a tyre and wheel assembly, the system uses a heavy-duty nylon containment structure and continuous anchoring strap to help contain wheel and rim components should a catastrophic failure occur. The first model has been developed for 25-inch assemblies, with additional sizes under development.
KalPRO Argus addresses another critical maintenance challenge: wheel inspections. Traditionally, wheel inspections can require rims to be shipped long distances to specialised facilities, adding cost, extending turnaround time and removing assets from operation. Argus brings inspection capability closer to the mine by using electromagnetic non-destructive testing technology to scan critical areas of the wheel for cracks and other defects. This helps teams identify issues before they become failures that could lead to downtime, repairs or safety concerns.
The latest version includes a redesigned universal probe that follows wheel contours more effectively, including weld areas, simplifying inspection work and improving technician efficiency.
Sustainability will also be represented through the KalPRO Maple Programme which provides customers with data on carbon and oil savings achieved through Kal Tire’s repair and retread solutions compared to buying new tyres.
Customers receive yearly Maple Programme certificates showing the mine’s carbon and fuel emissions savings from choosing repair or retread solutions, as well as the carbon savings associated with repairing or retreading locally rather than shipping in new tyres from global manufacturing locations. This gives mines data they can use in environmental reporting and helps connect day-to-day tyre decisions with broader sustainability goals.
