Terramin begins site works at Tala Hamza after land access resolved
Australia-listed Terramin has started site preparation activities at its Tala Hamza zinc project in Algeria, following the resolution of land access constraints.
The company reported on Tuesday that access to the project area had been secured after Algerian government agencies acquired the land required for mining operations, at an estimated cost of about $30-million. The move clears a hurdle that had delayed progress, including geotechnical drilling and other preparatory work.
Terramin said the completion of a resident relocation process had enabled unrestricted access to the site, allowing physical works to begin.
“The resolution of land access constraints, which have hindered progress in recent quarters, now allows us to move forward with on-the-ground activities.
“With site access now secured, the focus shifts to execution as we advance the project towards development readiness," said executive chairperson Bruce Sheng.
Initial activities underway include site access and clearing works, the establishment of operational and laydown areas, and early-stage ground preparation near planned infrastructure locations.
The start of these activities signals the project’s shift from a constrained phase into active development preparation, with geotechnical work to support final underground mine design expected to follow.
Tala Hamza is regarded as one of the largest undeveloped zinc and lead deposits globally, with a mineral resource of about 53-million tonnes grading 5.3% zinc and 1.3% lead. The project is expected to support a long-life operation of about 20 years.
Terramin holds a 49% interest in the project and retains management control.
Senior Algerian government officials, including the Prime Minister, recently visited the site.
