South Africa needs an instrument that will attract capital investment into exploration

For a country with a top-ten mineral reserve status, South Africa’s mining sector should not be shrinking. This economically negative trend simply has to be reversed. Fortunately, already in place to do so are the Government-Business Partnership for Growth and Jobs and the Investment and Growth Strategy of Minerals Council South Africa that dovetails with it.

Beneficial, too, is that South Africa already has an existing agreed exploration implementation plan as well as an upcoming cadastre system. South African cannot afford to be withoutthe transparency of a cadastre, which is scheduled to be up and running by March 31 next year to unlock mining.

When it comes to gross fixed capital formation, employment multiplication, and the contribution of tax to the fiscus, mining punches well above its own weight. In recognition of this, exploration must be affordedan instrument that will attract capital investment. A cadastre without this will fail to deliver optimally.
