NYSE- and JSE-listed precious metals miner Sibanye-Stillwater has confirmed its workforces at the Stillwater East mine and Columbus metallurgical facility, both in Montana, have ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with the United Steel Workers International Union (USW), effective retroactively from June 1, 2026, to May 31, 2029.

The new agreement covers a broad range of terms, including a wage increase of 4.5% in year one, the greater of 3.5% or Consumer Price Index (CPI) in year two, and the greater of 3% or CPI in year three of the agreement.

The ratification of the collective bargaining agreement brings to a close the strike notice and strike action since September 3 and employees are expected to resume their duties from October 9.

The workforce of the East Boulder mine, also in Montana, also ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with USW on September 30, which became effective on August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2029.

The agreement has the same wage increase terms as the one ratified at Stillwater East mine and Columbus.

The agreements are an important step for Sibanye in implementing its US PGM operations’ plan of full mechanisation, including a move away from a rock-breaking incentive to a team-based incentive, as well as modernising certain legacy benefits that are out-of-scope with the US market.

"We are pleased to have concluded multi-year collective bargaining agreements that support the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the US PGM operations, preserving these strategic assets, in the interests of all stakeholders," comments Sibanye-Stillwater CEO Richard Stewart.
