Crushing, screening and material handling solutions provider Pilot Crushtec International has expanded its locally developed crushing and screening range with the launch of the DynamiTrac XS200 Xtreme mobile scalping screen. The new piece of equipment is a compact, entry-level machine designed to provide contractors, smaller quarrying and mining operations, recycling businesses and emerging operators with a cost-effective, highly mobile solution.

The South African-designed and manufactured machine has been developed specifically to bridge the gap between productivity and affordability, offering the screening performance of significantly larger equipment while remaining compact enough to be transported without abnormal-load permits and shipped in a standard 40-foot container.

Speaking at the product launch, Pilot Crushtec sales and marketing director Francois Marais said the XS200 represents far more than a new machine.

“[While] this is a brand-new product introduction, it is by no means a new product to us,” he said, explaining that the concept dates back to 2008 and has undergone years of design, development, field testing and refinement before being brought to market.

Marais said Pilot Crushtec believes it is currently the only South African manufacturer producing mobile crushing and screening equipment capable of competing internationally.

“This particular machine, like our TwisterTrac range, is completely designed, fabricated and manufactured proudly here in South Africa.”

The company has incorporated internationally recognised components where required, including Perkins engines and premium undercarriage systems, while sourcing as many components as possible from local suppliers.

Filling a Market Gap

According to the company, the DynamiTrac XS200 addresses growing demand for smaller, more flexible screening equipment as businesses seek smarter ways to improve productivity without investing in oversized plants.

Positioned as an entry-level mobile scalper, the machine is intended for contractors, emerging operators and smaller operations requiring dependable screening capability without the footprint, complexity or capital cost associated with larger equipment.

Pilot Crushtec International director of technical and customer support Jorge Abelho said many customers do not require machines capable of processing 400 t/h or 500 t/h but still need to handle large feed material efficiently.

“It’s ideal for a customer that doesn’t need to do extreme volumes per hour but has a big feed size,” he explained.

“It would be for a new contractor or [for] entry-level [players]. It would be for someone that moves around a lot, contractors who do smaller jobs. The bigger machines are expensive to move around, whereas this one is simpler to get in and out of sites, do smaller jobs, but it can do it at a high rate with a fairly large feed size.”

The machine has been engineered to process more than 200 t/h despite weighing less than 10 t, enabling transport on conventional trailers without special permits.

Marais noted that reducing logistical costs formed a central part of the design philosophy.

“For contractors whose business depends on moving equipment from one site to another, transport costs weigh heavily on operating expenses. By keeping the machine below 10 t, we’ve eliminated much of that burden.”

Its compact dimensions also simplify site deployment, with the low feed height reducing the need to construct loading ramps.

Designed Around Mobility

One of the project's primary design objectives was ensuring the machine could be transported inside a standard shipping container.

Abelho said achieving container dimensions required some design compromises, particularly regarding the maximum screening angle, however, maintaining export compatibility was essential.

Marais added that containerisation significantly reduces international shipping costs compared with traditional roll-on/roll-off transport, making the XS200 particularly attractive for export markets including Europe, Australia and, potentially, the US.

The company believes the machine will also appeal across Africa, where transport logistics, rapid deployment and accessibility to remote sites are critical operational considerations.

Built for Versatility, Simplicity

The DynamiTrac XS200 has been designed for scalping and classifying run-of-mine, blasted and recycled material, removing oversize and fines early in the process to improve downstream crushing efficiency and protecting capital equipment.

The machine features a double-deck screen capable of accepting feed material up to 300 mm in size.

One of its standout technical characteristics is its unusually aggressive screen-box geometry.

Marais explained that the screen angle can be adjusted between 15° and 27° which allows the machine to process high volumes of material, particularly sand applications, despite its compact footprint.

To maximise application flexibility, operators can fit different screening media depending on the material being processed.

Rather than incorporating increasingly sophisticated electronic control systems, Pilot Crushtec deliberately opted for straightforward operation and maintenance.

Marais said many customers operate in remote environments where simplicity and reliability outweigh technological complexity.

The machine therefore uses intuitive controls, straightforward commissioning procedures and easily accessible maintenance points to minimise downtime.

Abelho said the engineering team deliberately avoided unnecessary complexity after drawing on decades of experience developing mobile equipment.

“We’ve gone for basic controls, basic layout, really trying to make it a user-friendly machine and easy to keep going.”

Maintenance has also been simplified through accessible engine layouts, open service areas and heavy-duty components designed to withstand demanding African operating conditions.

Pilot Crushtec says the XS200 reflects the company’s ongoing investment in local manufacturing capability.

It also demonstrates the company’s commitment to delivering fit-for-purpose equipment designed around real operational needs.
