A new charging solution tailored to the specific challenges of underground mining and heavy‑duty electrification has been launched by global mining and construction technology and equipment provider Epiroc.

The new chargers are engineered to deliver a combination of rugged reliability, original-equipment manufacturer (OEM) agnostic standardisation, and dynamic power distribution, aimed at ensuring safe and efficient charging.

Protected by an IP65‑classified design, the chargers can withstand dust, humidity, and continuous heavy‑duty use. With the ability to place remote charge posts up to 300 m from the central cabinet, mines can employ decentralised charging strategies to reduce tramming, minimise queues, and keep power close to active faces. Charge posts can be either pedestal‑mounted or wall‑mounted, enabling effective placement.

“To further boost productivity, the chargers support dynamic power sharing across up to eight posts per cabinet. This allows available capacity to be directed to where it’s needed, adapting in real time to changing fleet patterns and helping maintain high equipment utilisation throughout every shift,” says Epiroc global product manager: EV infrastructure Trent Sears.

Additional benefits include telematics support for tracking charge sessions, with plug‑and‑play power electronics aimed at simplifying serviceability, installation, and configuration to create a unified, single charging solution for mixed battery‑electric fleets. Improved charging solutions also help reduce reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate the risks of supply disruption and price instability.
