New Brunwsick communities indicate support for emerging potash mine
Canadian private exploration company Atlantic Potash Millstream Corporation (APMC) has confirmed strong public support for its proposed Millstream potash project in New Brunswick.
The company conducted an independent 2026 Public Perception Survey, including among 200 residents of Saint John County and Kings County.
Seven in ten residents, or 71%, are aware of the proposed potash mine near Sussex, New Brunswick. Among those aware, 82% support the project.
After respondents were provided a brief description of the project – including its projected 280 to 340 direct jobs creation, two-million tonnes of yearly potash production and 25-year mine life – support rose to 92%, with opposition remaining very low at just 3%.
APMC CEO and director Keith Attoe appreciates residents in the communities closest to the project seeing its potential. "This research confirms what we have heard directly from families and businesses: that there is real appetite for responsible resource development that creates good jobs and delivers long-term economic benefit to the region."
The company also asked residents what responsible development would look like, to which 47% ranked environmental protections and oversight as a top priority, 44% ranked long-term economic stability as a priority and 42% said regional economic benefits are important.
The Millstream potash project holds a measured resource of 52.1-million tonnes of potassium chloride, which underpins the planned 25-year, two-million-tonne-a-year operation.
APMC is currently advancing core drilling and technical studies which will help inform a prefeasibility study on the Millstream project.
