Namib Minerals makes new board and executive appointments
Gold and exploration company Namib Minerals has announced a series of board and executive leadership appointments to strengthen oversight and reinforce financial leadership to support the company’s next phase of growth, including the planned restart of the Redwing mine, in Zimbabwe, and the execution of its development financing strategy.
In addition to serving the company as CEO, Tulani Sikwila has been appointed as chairperson, while businessperson Wendy Luhabe has been appointed independent nonexecutive director and lead independent director and Sphe Mchunu CFO.
Sikwila says Luhabe has more than three decades of board leadership experience across local and foreign-listed companies.
Having recently stepped down as retail group Pepkor Holdings chairperson, she has also previously served as chairperson of development finance institution (DFI) the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) from 1999 to 2009, telecommunications company Vodacom from 2000 to 2005 and currently serves as a nonexecutive director at Swiss-headquartered luxury goods company Richemont.
“Namib Minerals has a producing asset, a defined restart programme at Redwing and a financing plan grounded in African development finance — territory I know well from a decade chairing the IDC. I look forward to providing experienced oversight for this exciting phase of the company's growth," Luhabe says.
The company says her appointment comes at a pivotal stage as it advances its operational and financing objectives.
"Wendy's appointment strengthens this board materially. She has chaired a national DFI, helped govern some of the region's largest listed companies and understands what disciplined capital deployment into African mining looks like," Sikwila notes.
Meanwhile, prior to his appointment as CFO, Mchunu served as Namib Minerals general counsel, where he played a central role in the company’s June 2025 business combination with global investment manager Hennessy Capital and its subsequent Nasdaq listing, leading the legal, regulatory and disclosure workstreams.
Mchunu has also practiced as an attorney at international law firm Hogan Lovells and holds a Master of Laws degree in Commercial Law from the University of Cape Town.
“Sphe brings a rare combination of perspectives to the role of CFO. He has worked closely with both the operational and finance portfolios of our business and was instrumental in taking the company public. The board is confident he is the right person to lead our finance portfolio through this next phase of growth,” Sikwila says.
He concludes that these appointments represent another milestone in Namib’s ongoing evolution as a publicly listed mining company and its commitment to strong governance, disciplined capital allocation and long-term value creation for shareholders.
