TSX-listed Lake Victoria Gold is making substantial progress in accelerating and developing the Imwelo gold project, in Tanzania’s Geita region.

Reflecting on the early work undertaken so far, the company highlights that initial spot repairs have been completed along the 14-km-long access road from Katoro to the Imwelo village at the project site to improve access ahead of the region’s wet season.

The project construction camp has been substantially completed, with core utilities and amenities installed and the water system being pressure-tested.

Lake Victoria Gold also notes that the build-once camp will transition into Imwelo’s permanent operations camp.

Clearing and bulk earthworks are advancing across the pit, tailings storage recovery, waste rock dump and dam site, while bush clearing is under way.

The company further highlights that the stripping and levelling of the run-of-mine (RoM) pad has started, and excavated material is being used to build the western barrier within the mining licence boundary.

Notably, a Tanzanian contractor is delivering the works, with the road programme being supervised in coordination with the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency and benefiting surrounding communities.

“These early works mark an important step as we move Imwelo from a fully permitted, development-ready asset toward construction.

“Reliable site access, preparation of the core infrastructure footprints and a substantially complete build-once camp are essential to that transition and reflect our practical, disciplined approach to development,” says Lake Victoria Gold president and CEO Marc Cernovotich.
