“It’s DUE” – Develop, Unite, Empower is the theme of the annual women and leadership programme organised by Pinpoint Stewards. The Women and Leadership in Mining Conference will feature South African women in mining, specifically showcasing local talent.

The two day conference, taking place on August 30 and 31, 2023, at the Indaba Hotel, in Fourways, will bring women across all mining commodities together to not only recognise current leaders making headlines, but to discover new upcoming leaders within the sector.

Media partners Mining Weekly and African Mining were the first to back the women-owned company and ensure equal reporting to elevate women in leadership within mining.

The panel discussion addressing the Minerals Council South Africa’s and members ambitious targets to double the percentage of women in mining by 2025 and increase management by 50% over the next decade, includes three women nominated for the 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining 2022/2023. These inspirational women will deliberate on how these targets can be achieved realistically and include WiMSA Chairperson Raksha Naidoo, Glencore Alloys-Wonderkop Smelter Human Resource Manager Fatima Hayat, Anglo American’s Kumba Iron Ore Section Manager Mogaleadi Seabela, as well as Sibanye Stillwater Project Manager for Women of Sibanye Stillwater Fatima Collins.

The explosive topic of having more women occupy critical leadership positions in the industry and how to ensure more women raise their hand to step into leadership opportunities will be addressed by Overlooked Group HR Manager Tumi Sedupane.  Salungano Group Environmental Manager & ESG Coordinator Mokgadi Maloba will raise the issue of affording more opportunities for women to access the mining sector through modernisation towards safety and sustainability.

Addressing the pivotal subject to ensuring women are empowered by having policies and legislation in place to advance them, will be evaluated by Ivanhoe Mines Project Manager Social and Legal Compliance Maropeng Ketjoe.  It is her desire to infuse her knowledge, experience and passion to create a legacy in her work and motivate other women to do the same.

Sponsors and exhibitors are welcome to join in the two day conference. Companies who have taken early advantage to showcase their support towards women empowerment and exhibit at the conference include: Tshepa Basadi Group, River Minerals (Pty) Ltd and Total Energies (Pty) Ltd, with De Grendel sponsoring the wine tasting, as “it’s not all work and no play,” says Pinpoint Stewards co-owner Ankia Roux.

She added: “Last year Pinpoint Stewards sponsored seven young professionals at university level to attend the conference and we introduced these students to the conference delegates.  We believe with the support of sponsors we are able to introduce more young professionals to a career in mining.”

Pinpoint Stewards have 20 years’ experience in research, management and arranging onsite conferences and, more recently, online training platforms. They are a 100% women-owned, Level 2 B-BBEE company. For more information and the full conference brochure and activities planned contact info@pinpointstewards.co.za. Take advantage of the EARLY BIRD conference fee where delegates pay only R7 900 Excl VAT for 2-days when registering before 28 July.
