ASX-listed AuKing Mining and Nasdaq-listed Greenland Mines have both welcomed the strong commitment shown by the US government to advance critical mineral projects in Greenland.

AuKing explains Greenland’s critical minerals sector is attracting increased strategic interest from the US, highlighted by President Donald Trump’s announcement on October 14 regarding plans for major mineral exploration activities in Greenland.

The latest development follows the landmark defence and security agreement signed between the US, Greenland and Denmark on September 22, which further underscores Greenland’s increasing geopolitical significance and its emerging role in global critical minerals supply chains.

The shares of Greenand Mines, which owns the Sarfartoq rare earths project just north of AuKing's Qeqertaasaq project, and that of Critical Minerals Corporation, which owns the Tanbreez rare earths project in Greenland, rose on early trading following Trump's announcement.

AuKing’s Qeqertaasaq project represents one of Greenland’s notable historically identified high-grade niobium projects, with associated rare earth mineralisation further strengthening its strategic relevance amid increasing US engagement with Greenland’s critical minerals sector.

AuKing's exploration will initially focus on previously identified high-grade niobium mineralisation zones, with historical intercepts including 10.4 m of niobium pentoxide grading 1.29% from 1.9 m; 5.22 m of niobium pentoxide grading 2.73% from 4.1 m; and 15.9 m of niobium pentoxide grading 0.80% from 3.6 m.

Greenland Mines says the President's announcement reinforces the opportunity for responsibly developed Greenlandic mineral resources to support allied industrial capacity, economic resilience and national security.

"President Trump’s comments put Greenland’s mineral potential firmly alongside its strategic location in the discussion of allied security.

"We welcome that recognition. Reliable access to critical minerals is an essential part of a strong industrial and defence base, and Greenland has the potential to make a meaningful contribution. Realising that potential requires sustained investment, technical execution and close cooperation with Greenland’s authorities and communities. Those priorities are central to our work at Sarfartoq and the Skaergaard palladium and platinum project," says Greenland Mines president Dr Bo Møller Stensgaard.
