Goodwin strengthens regional support for heavy-duty submersible pumping
Goodwin Submersible Pumps operations director Rui Gomes spoke to Engineering News & Mining Weekly during the Electra Mining Africa event, held in Johannesburg from September 7 to 11, 2026. Camerawork: Miko Moodley. Editing: Nicholas Boyd.
Goodwin Submersible Pumps Africa is strengthening its support for mining, industrial and water and wastewater operations across Southern Africa, backed by a Johannesburg-based facility established in 2016.
The operation includes a fully equipped workshop and test bay, alongside more than 1 200 m² of warehouse, rental and service-exchange storage. The facility enables the company to manage spares requirements and provide ancillary equipment, including pontoons, control panels, hoses and couplings.
Goodwin Submersible Pumps Africa is the sole distributor of Goodwin electrically driven, submersible, abrasion-resistant slurry and water pumps in the region.
Designed for demanding pumping applications, the heavy-duty pumps can handle slurries containing abrasive solids of up to 65% by weight. A key feature is a patented external agitator, which breaks down and re-suspends settled or compacted solids, allowing the pumps to transfer high concentrations of solids relative to water.
The company says this capability has made its pumps particularly effective in challenging applications where conventional pumping equipment can struggle with settled solids and highly abrasive slurries.
Goodwin’s ANZE, also known as the “Yellow Submarine” or “Yellow Bomber”, has been sold and serviced across South, Central, West and East Africa, as well as SADC countries, for nearly two decades.
The African operation is focused on improving the availability of new pumps, spare parts, service exchanges and technical support, with an experienced team providing services to customers across the mining, industrial and water and wastewater sectors.
The combination of local workshop capability, stockholding and specialised pumping technology positions Goodwin to provide responsive support for demanding regional applications.
