FLS strengthens mining reliability and lifecycle support across Africa
FLS capital sales director for Africa PCV business line Derek Lane spoke to Engineering News & Mining Weekly during the Electra Mining Africa event, held in Johannesburg from 7 to 11 September 2026. Camerawork: Miko Moodley. Editing: Nicholas Boyd.
For mining operations across Africa, reliability means more than equipment performance. Remote locations, extended supply chains and logistical challenges mean that fast access to technical expertise, spares and maintenance support can be critical to maintaining production.
FLS is strengthening this support through its regional service-centre network, including the Stormill Mining Service Centre in South Africa. The facility provides strategic spare-parts stockholding, pump, cyclone and valve refurbishment, retrofits, service-exchange units, field support and technical training for KREBS® slurry-handling equipment.
As mines increasingly focus on protecting capital investments, rebuilds, retrofits and lifecycle services are also becoming important alternatives to full equipment replacement. FLS’s service centres provide repair, refurbishment and rebuild capabilities designed to extend equipment life while reducing downtime and maintenance costs.
Water and energy efficiency are equally important priorities. FLS’s slurry-pumping solutions are designed to improve hydraulic efficiency and reduce power consumption, while monitoring technologies can provide real-time operational data to support optimisation.
Looking ahead, FLS is focused on combining global expertise with local capability to help African mines improve uptime, extend equipment lifecycles and operate more efficiently.
