Fleet modernisation increases piping demand

INCREASING DEMAND Amid Eskom’s modernising its generation fleet and South Africa aiming to expand energy and transmission infrastructure, demand has grown for specialised piping systems
Amid State-owned utility Eskom’s modernising its generation fleet and the country's aiming to expand energy and transmission infrastructure, pipe supplier Allied Pipe & Fittings has noted growing demand for specialised piping systems, high-integrity fittings, forged products and flanges capable of operating under increasingly demanding service conditions.
“Demand has shifted towards higher-performance products that comply with increasingly stringent technical specifications, international quality standards and traceability requirements,” Allied Pipe & Fittings MD Andrea Ceccarelli states.
Infrastructure upgrades, life-extension programmes, transmission expansion, substation development and maintenance projects, she explains, all require reliable engineered products with proven performance.
As such, the company is supporting South Africa’s power-generation and maintenance programmes primarily through its supplying engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors.
Allied Pipe & Fittings’ scope includes the supply of boiler tubes, forgings, pipe fittings, flanges and other specialised piping components for new build, maintenance and refurbishment projects across South Africa’s generation fleet.
Additionally, the company has supported strategic projects such as supplying EPC contractors of Nuclear Energy Corporation South Africa and Eskom’s Koeberg nuclear power station, boasting over 50 years of experience in the nuclear sector where stringent quality, traceability and technical compliance are essential.
“By supplying compliant, fully traceable products, and given our ASME 3 certification, Allied Pipe & Fittings helps EPC contractors execute projects safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards,” he states.
Supporting Transition
In the ongoing energy transition, a key area of strategic growth is hydrogen infrastructure.
Ceccarelli cites the company’s partnership with engineering and manufacturing company Allied International Group and other leading global manufacturers, which enables it to provide specialised materials developed for hydrogen production, transportation and storage applications.
This, he states, positions Allied Pipe & Fittings to support future hydrogen projects as South Africa expands its clean-energy capabilities.
Further, he notes that the nascent hydrogen sector represents an exciting growth sector, adding that the company has positioned itself to leverage upcoming opportunities.
Additionally, with investment in transmission infrastructure, grid expansion and future energy projects expected to increase, Allied Pipe & Fittings remains committed to supplying high-quality engineered products that allow for these critical infrastructure developments.
South Africa’s Transmission Development Plan, for example, represents a significant opportunity for companies, Ceccarelli concludes.
