Deep Yellow forges ahead on Namibian projects
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed developer Deep Yellow has submitted environmental scoping reports on both its Tumas and its Omahola uranium projects, in Namibia.
The Tumas project consists of a two-zone resource contiguous to the east of the Tubas Sand project. The project area also includes two exploration tenements, where mineral resources were yet to be delineated.
A shallow openpit mining operation was envisaged at Tumas, to produce a uranium-rich sand concentrate, which could be transported to an existing processing facility, such as Paladin Energy’s Langer Heinrich mine.
The Ongolo alaskite area forms part of the flagship Omahola project, which has a Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant resource of 48.7-million tons, at 420 parts per million, for 45.1-million pounds of uranium oxide.
The project was currently at a prefeasibility stage.
Deep Yellow’s MD Greg Cochran said on Thursday that the submission of both the environmental scoping reports was an important step in the permitting process for the projects.
He noted that despite the fact that the company was not currently progressing technical studies on the Tumas project, it was important to capture the benefit of having the environmental consultants complete the Tumas assessment simultaneously to the Ongolo assessment.
“There is naturally some overlap that is beneficial because it means that both assessments would be undertaken to the same rigorous standards. As with Ongolo, we will ensure that the environmental impacts of the Tumas project are fully assessed and that the public is kept informed of our plans and progress,” Cochran said.
