Remote mining companies are requiring more from their on-site facilities, with hospitality and facilities management solutions company Bidvest Catering Services citing growing demand for accommodation support, catering, housekeeping and laundry management, as well as hygiene and sanitation solutions.

The company has a credible record, having provided its hospitality and accommodation support solutions for mines, including a cement manufacturer in Limpopo and a gold miner in Mpumalanga, South Africa, notes chief sales and marketing officer Unathi Sibiya.

She says the company can help mines to optimise daily operations by, for example, ensuring strict food safety compliance, managing dining facilities, maintaining hygiene standards, and coordinating procurement and effective stock management.

Bidvest Catering Services also deploys experienced operational teams to manage large-scale service environments while ensuring that high-volume mining sites have access to responsive and consistent facilities management services.

“The ability to deliver reliable, quality service is what distinguishes a capable mining hospitality partner from one that merely meets the minimum requirements,” she adds.

Wellbeing Support

Bidvest Catering Services also provides programmes to enhance workforce wellbeing, productivity, morale and operational performance through the provision of nutritious meals to sustain energy levels, while providing accommodation and dining facilities that are “clean and professionally managed”, aiding rest and recovery.

The company’s solutions to wellness-focused menu planning, recreational space enhancement and hygiene management enhance the overall quality of mineworkers’ daily living environments.

“Mining personnel typically work long shifts in physically demanding conditions, often in remote locations and under considerable pressure . . . Employees who are well-fed, well-rested and working in dignified conditions are more focused, less fatigued and less likely to be absent, all of which directly affect site productivity and safety,” she comments.

The company also advances initiatives, such as wellness days, led by a national dietician.
