Italian high-voltage specialist BSTransfo is scaling up its manufacturing capabilities and circular engineering services to meet surging global demand across the power generation, transmission, and heavy industrial sectors. Operating from its headquarters in Ospitaletto in Brescia, Italy, this company has established itself as a critical partner for high-stress electrical equipment, particularly electric arc furnace and power transformers.
BSTransfo’s current production facilities span two specialised hubs: a 3,000 m² assembly, treatment, and high-voltage testing facility (WS01) capable of handling equipment up to an insulation class of 245 kV and equipped with a 100-ton overhead crane; and a dedicated 600 m² in-house winding department (WS02).
To accommodate accelerating market opportunities, the company has announced a major 12,000 m² facility expansion and the new site will feature a 4,000 m² high-power production hall, 400 m² of office space, and a 200-ton overhead crane, effectively doubling heavy assembly capabilities and creating up to 100 skilled engineering and technical jobs.
A primary driver of BSTransfo's strategy is addressing the extreme operational demands of electrometallurgical and heavy industry applications.
The company adds that electric arc furnace transformers must continuously endure severe electrodynamic, thermal, and mechanical stress caused by frequent short-circuits and heavy load fluctuations.
Moreover, to serve these challenging environments, BSTransfo manufactures single- and three-phase units up to 100 MVA, delivering high secondary currents exceeding tens of kiloamperes controlled through on-load tap changers (OLTC) or intermediate boosters.
For power utilities and renewables, the company designs and builds high voltage/medium voltage (HV/MV) and medium voltage/high voltage (MV/MV) power transformers up to 150 MVA.
In parallel with new equipment design, BSTransfo is championing sustainability and grid resilience through comprehensive lifecycle management. The firm’s service arm specialises in in-factory rewinding, complete design reviews, advanced diagnostic testing, and emergency on-site field engineering.
A core element of this portfolio is the supply of fully refurbished, guaranteed second-hand transformers. Amid prolonged global lead times for electrical infrastructure, refurbished units offer significant cost savings, immediate delivery schedules, and substantial carbon reduction.
With global supply chains under strain, BSTransfo’s dual focus on new high-specification manufacturing and rapid circular repair provides a vital lifeline for energy-intensive industries worldwide.
