Winning Consortium Simandou

Winning Consortium Simandou is a mining consortium that holds development rights to blocks 1 and 2 of the Simandou iron-ore project in Guinea. The consortium is involved in one of the world's largest undeveloped iron-ore deposits, located in the Simandou mountain range in south-eastern Guinea. The project is strategically significant owing to the scale and quality of its iron-ore reserves, which are estimated to contain billions of tonnes of high-grade hematite. Winning Consortium Simandou's operations form part of Guinea's broader ambition to become a major global supplier of iron ore, a key input for steel production. The consortium's development plans include not only mining infrastructure but also the construction of a trans-Guinean railway and port facilities to enable export of the ore. The Simandou project has attracted international attention and investment owing to its potential to reshape global iron-ore supply chains. Development of the blocks has faced regulatory, logistical and financial challenges over the years, but remains a priority for the Guinean government. The consortium's activities are closely watched by global mining and steel industries, particularly in China, which is a major consumer of iron ore. Winning Consortium Simandou's progress is seen as critical to unlocking the economic potential of the Simandou deposit and contributing to Guinea's economic development.
