United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is a sovereign country located off the north-western coast of continental Europe, comprising England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Its capital is London, one of the world's leading financial and commercial centres. With a population of about 67-million, the UK has a highly developed mixed economy and is a major global trading nation. The country's dominant sectors include financial services, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, automotive manufacturing, creative industries and professional services. The currency is the pound sterling (£), issued by the Bank of England. The UK is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy, governed from Westminster. It is a member of international organisations including the United Nations, the Commonwealth, the G7 and Nato, and left the European Union in 2020. Historically a major industrial and imperial power, the UK remains influential in global finance, technology, research and trade. Its economy is closely integrated with European and global markets, and it continues to attract significant foreign investment. The UK's business environment is characterised by strong legal frameworks, a skilled workforce and advanced infrastructure, making it a key hub for multinational corporations and innovation.
