Perth Mint

Perth Mint is a precious metals refinery and minting facility owned by the Government of Western Australia. Headquartered in Perth, Western Australia, it produces gold, silver and platinum bullion bars and coins for investors and collectors worldwide. The mint is one of the world's largest refiners of newly mined gold and operates under a guarantee from the Western Australian government, making its products particularly attractive to international investors. Perth Mint manufactures a range of investment-grade bullion products, including the Australian Kangaroo gold coin series, Australian Kookaburra silver coins and Australian Platinum Koala coins. It also offers depository and certificate programmes that allow investors to hold allocated or unallocated precious metals. The facility refines gold from Australian mines and international sources, processing several hundred tonnes of gold annually. Perth Mint products are distributed globally through a network of dealers and financial institutions. The mint maintains accreditation with the London Bullion Market Association and other international precious metals bodies. It was established in 1899 as a branch of the British Royal Mint to refine gold from Western Australian goldfields and began operating under state ownership in 1970 following the closure of the Royal Mint's Australian branches.
