Behind every impactful learning programme is a network of experts whose knowledge and experience help shape future industries. In collaboration with Enterprises University of Pretoria (Enterprises UP), a number of distinguished female academics from the University of Pretoria's Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines contribute their expertise to the design and delivery of executive education and professional development programmes.

As industries continue to evolve, the need for learning solutions that combine academic credibility with practical relevance has never been greater. Organisations require professionals who can navigate technological disruption, drive innovation, manage complex projects and lead organisational change. Enterprises UP addresses this need by partnering with subject matter experts whose research, industry experience and thought leadership help shape learning programmes that are relevant, practical and future-focused.

Among these experts is Prof Elma van der Lingen, a recognised leader in innovation, entrepreneurship and technology commercialisation. Her work focuses on helping organisations transform ideas into sustainable business value through innovation and strategic thinking. As businesses face increasing pressure to remain competitive in rapidly changing markets, innovation has become a strategic capability rather than simply a competitive advantage. Through her contribution to programme development and professional learning initiatives, Van der Lingen helps professionals gain valuable insights into how innovation can drive organisational growth, competitiveness and long-term success.

Complementing this focus on innovation and future-readiness is Prof Hannelie Nel, whose expertise spans technology and innovation management, digital transformation and engineering leadership. As course leader of the Leadership for Technical Women programme, she plays an important role in equipping women in technical and engineering fields with the skills and confidence required to lead in complex and rapidly evolving environments. Her research explores the impact of emerging technologies, AI and data-driven decision-making on organisational performance, project success and future engineering practices, providing valuable insights into the future of leadership in STEM.

Building on the leadership and innovation themes that underpin many modern organisations, Dr Suzaan Pretorius contributes significant expertise in project management through her research, teaching, postgraduate supervision and industry engagement. Her research focuses on the impact of AI and emerging technologies on project management, particularly their influence on project delivery, governance and decision-making. Through teaching and research, she equips current and future project professionals with the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to manage complex projects, adapt to technological change and make evidence-based decisions.

Supporting the development of technical excellence is Dr Rina Peach, who brings specialised knowledge in engineering asset and maintenance management. Her research focuses on Maintenance 4.0, including digitalisation, cybersecurity and the management of critical infrastructure assets. As a registered Professional Engineer, she combines academic expertise with practical industry insight, helping professionals develop the skills required to improve asset reliability, operational efficiency and long-term infrastructure performance. Her contribution to professional learning programmes ensures that industry practitioners are equipped to manage critical assets and infrastructure in an increasingly technology-driven world.

Further strengthening this diverse pool of expertise is Prof Lizette Weilbach from the University of Pretoria's Department of Informatics. Her areas of expertise include information technology, agile project management, digital transformation and business innovation. Her research interests encompass digital transformation, Society 5.0, agile methodologies, SME innovation and the integration of AI in business and education. Weilbach helps professionals acquire the skills needed to lead technology-enabled change, manage complex projects and drive innovation in rapidly evolving business environments.

Together, these accomplished academics highlight one of the key strengths of the Enterprises UP approach: providing access to diverse expertise from respected subject matter specialists who understand both academic research and industry realities. Their contributions help shape programmes that address real-world challenges while preparing professionals to respond effectively to changing business and technological environments. By translating specialist knowledge into practical learning experiences, they help bridge the gap between academia and industry and ensure that learning remains relevant to the needs of today's organisations.
