Weir drives smarter, more efficient minerals processing
Weir sales director for Africa Edward Jansen spoke to Engineering News & Mining Weekly during the Electra Mining Africa event, held in Johannesburg from 7 to 11 September 2026. Camerawork: Shadwyn Dickinson. Editing: Nicholas Boyd.
As African mining operations face increasing pressure to improve productivity, reduce costs and operate more sustainably, digitalisation is becoming an increasingly important tool for optimising minerals processing. Weir is helping customers harness digital technologies to gain greater visibility and control across their operations.
By combining equipment expertise with technologies such as AI, predictive analytics and condition monitoring, Weir is enabling mines to move beyond reactive maintenance towards more proactive approaches to asset and process management. These tools can help identify potential issues earlier, support better maintenance planning and improve equipment availability.
With processing plants generating increasingly large volumes of operational data, the ability to turn that information into actionable insights is becoming a key differentiator. Weir’s digital solutions are designed to help customers use data to optimise throughput, improve reliability, extend equipment life and reduce operating costs.
Digitalisation also has an important role to play in sustainability, helping mines identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, optimise water use and enhance overall plant performance.
Looking ahead, Weir is focused on further integrating digital technologies with its minerals-processing expertise to support smarter, more connected and increasingly efficient mining operations across Africa.
