Voice amplifier enhances mask-on communication

One of the biggest challenges that workers face on the shop floor is the ability to communicate effectively and safely while wearing either a half or full-face piece respirator. Safe communication is often challenging because the respirator muffles the user’s speech making it difficult for them to be heard or understood, says personal protective equipment (PPE) solutions supplier Dromex.
To overcome this challenge many employees will often compromise their personal safety by lifting, removing, pulling or dropping their respirator so that they can be heard, leaving them exposed to toxic airborne substances.
This is an important health and safety issue, and one that Dromex is determined to address with its voice amplification innovation – which won the Innovation and New Product Award at Electra Mining Africa 2026, which took place in Johannesburg from September 7 to 11, 2026.
The Dromex voice amplifier device produces clearer communication among workers on site, reduces risk of exposure to airborne hazards caused by mask removal, supports better daily PPE compliance and safer work behaviour, as well as improves teamwork and enables faster instruction in respirator- required areas.
The amplification device seamlessly integrates with the Dromex respirators to clearly project the user’s voice, allowing for effective communication. The innovation is a South African first and will “revolutionise” communication on the shop floor.
