Uranium developer Paladin inks third mutual benefits agreement with First Nation in Saskatchewan
ASX- and TSX-listed uranium producer Paladin Energy's Canadian subsidiary has signed a mutual benefits agreement with the Birch Narrows Dene Nation covering the Patterson Lake South project, in the Athabasca Basin region of Saskatchewan.
The mutual benefits agreement covers the lifespan of the project, which lies in the nation's traditional territory, including how the parties will work together to shape and share in the economic and social benefits that the development of Patterson Lake South will bring to the region.
Importantly, the agreement confirms the support and consent of Birch Narrows Dene Nation for all phases of the project, from development to production and through to reclamation.
The latest agreement marks the third mutual benefits agreement having been signed with Paladin's host nations, with the other agreements involving Buffalo River Dene Nation and the Clearwater River Dene Nation, which were signed in February 2025.
"Our goal is to be a good neighbour and long-term partner in Saskatchewan so that First Nations can receive a positive benefit from the development of Patterson Lake South for many years to come," says Paladin MD and CEO Paul Hemburrow.
Birch Narrows Dene Nation chief Jonathon Sylvestre adds that the agreement reflects the nation's commitment to exercising its rights and responsibilities as a First Nation while creating meaningful opportunities for its people.
"Strong environmental protection must remain at the heart of development in our territory, and this agreement provides an important framework for that. At the same time, our community expects to see significant and lasting benefits from the project.
"We look forward to being a meaningful partner in the Patterson Lake South project and working with Paladin Canada to ensure it is developed responsibly, respectfully and in a way that creates lasting value for our people.”
