JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Coal exploration company Lemur Resources, in which the controlling interest had been acquired by Aim-listed Bushveld Minerals late last year, on Wednesday announced that Madagascar’s Tulear court had ruled that it would continue to hold tenure over permit 4578, that formed a part of its Imaloto coal project.

The plaintiff in the case, Rahajasoamampionona Ramiaramanana had 30 days to lodge an appeal against the court’s decision following which the decision would become final.

“We are delighted with the outcome of the Tulear court case. The resolution regarding the tenure of our 4578 mining licence will provide comfort to Lemur’s existing shareholders and potential investors who are engaged in discussion to partner with us on our Imaloto coal-fired power project,” Lemur CEO Anthony Viljoen commented.

Meanwhile, Lemur said it was still awaiting a ruling by the Antananarivo court relating to a request for the temporary enforcement of an original, now overturned, judgement in Tulear regarding permit 4578.

“This was not the normal legal process as the court case was still in progress in Tulear. Furthermore, the company has recently lodged with the Antananarivo court the recent decision of the Tulear court cancelling the original judgement withdrawing permit 4578,” Lemur said in a statement, adding that it remained positive the Antananarivo court would also rule in its favour.
