Talga seeks partners for Sweden copper/cobalt project
Australia’s Talga Resources is hunting for development partners for its northern Sweden copper/cobalt project, which now has a maiden resource estimate.
The company on Wednesday announced a maiden Joint Ore Reserves Committee- (Jorc-) compliant resource estimate for Kiskama, 40 km east of Kiruna, of 7.7-million tonnes at 0.25% copper, 0.04% cobalt or 0.36% copper-equivalent.
The resource estimate is classified as inferred and is based predominately on historic drilling, without any extensions or targets, such as the large K2 conductor discovered in 2019.
A total of 96 diamond drill holes have been historically drilled – 91 by the Geological Survey of Sweden and five by major miner Anglo American. Historical data has yielded 2 602 samples collected over 3 843 m of a total 12 824 m.
MD Mark Thompson said in a statement that the Jorc-compliant mineral resource estimate had achieved a solid base from which to lift the project above exploration level.
“. . . the timing of its potential further development is right to match the growing need for conflict-free sources of critical minerals, such as cobalt, to make lithium-ion batteries in Europe. From here, Talga will seek partners to further explore and develop this copper/cobalt project in north Sweden. The potential is to build larger scale on this core estimate with growth-targeted exploration along strike and down dip, including the newly identified large geophysical conductor ‘K2’ located just 600 m to the east.”
Talga’s priority is its flagship and highly advanced Vittangi graphite deposit – the world’s highest grade resource – but Kiskama is seen as a project with complementary battery suit materials.
