Aim-listed Tertiary Minerals has welcomed a positive announcement of the Swedish government that may bode well for the company's contentious Storuman fluorspar project.

The company says it has been receiving increasing queries on the status of its project since the government announcement was made.

Sweden late in July announced a new minerals strategy that designates critical minerals, including fluorspar, to be of national security interest and, accordingly, the State should more easily be able to assign land to mining projects.

The Storuman project has been an area of tension with the Sami indigenous people, despite being the most advanced fluorspar project in Scandinavia.

A positive economic scoping study was released on the project in 2011 before a 25-year mining permit application was granted in 2016. The mining permit had subsequently been overturned, with the project having been under appeal ever since.

Tertiary submitted its latest appeal related to the Storuman project in early 2025.

The company is awaiting a decision on this appeal and while it considers the recent mineral strategy [announced by the Swedish government] as positive, Tertiary has not been informed of any additional information regarding a likely timeframe for the result of its appeal.
