Name of the Project
Strange Lake mine and concentrator project.

Location
Near Lac Brisson in Nunavik, Canada.

Project Owner/s
Quebec-based rare earth development company Torngat Metals.

Project Description
The project will develop a deposit containing light and heavy rare earths, including dysprosium and terbium. The proposed mine site infrastructure comprises a 59 ha openpit, a concentration plant, dry-stack residue storage, water management and recycling facilities, and an airfield with a 1 500 m runway.

Five-million to 13-million tonnes of material are expected to be extracted a year over a mine life of more than 30 years.

Concentrate from the mine site is intended for a separate rare earth separation plant at the Port of Pointe-Noire industrial zone in Sept-Îles.

The concentration plant is expected to reduce the volume of materials transported to the separation plant.

Potential Job Creation
About 1 000 construction jobs and 200 mine-site operating jobs are expected, with recruitment directed towards Indigenous communities in Quebec and Labrador.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
To be determined.

Capital Expenditure
Not stated.

Planned Start/End Date
Construction is expected to start after the required permits have been issued.

Commissioning is targeted for 2030.

Latest Developments
On October 8, 2026, Torngat Metals reported completion of an updated feasibility study and said environmental-impact assessment work was nearing completion.

The company’s activity plan schedules bulk sampling for mid-2027.
