JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Metallurgical engineering company MDM has received approval for a grant from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to support its consultancy work in relation to the detailed feasibility study (DFS) of Aim-listed Hummingbird Resources’ Dugbe 1 project, in Liberia, Hummingbird said on Thursday.

MDM had been appointed lead consultant for the project’s DFS and front-end engineering and design (FEED) in July, and would provide Hummingbird with consultancy services covering topics such as process engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, platework, piping, electrical engineering, control and instrumentation engineering, infrastructure, project risk analysis, project implementation planning and capital and operating cost estimates.

As a result of the DTI grant, Hummingbird was expected to benefit from a 55% reduction in the cost of the DFS and FEED work to be done by MDM.

"The grant from government is a strong endorsement for MDM and the Dugbe 1 project, which we are very pleased to have been awarded. It also provides a significant cost saving for Hummingbird as we progress through our DFS and FEED," Hummingbird CE Dan Betts said.

Hummingbird expected the DFS and the FEED to be completed by the end of the third quarter of 2014.
