JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Platinum wage talks led by new Mineral Resources Minister Advocate Ngoako Ramatlhodi would continue on Monday, the Department of Mineral Resources said on Friday.

Immediately following his appointment to Cabinet, the Minister initiated talks between the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union and mining companies Anglo American Platinum, Lonmin and Impala Platinum, also establishing an intergovernmental technical team to work with labour and business to resolve the strike in the North West platinum belt.

“We are still engaging with all parties. Deliberations are at a sensitive stage, and we all remain committed to the process,” Ramatlhodi said.

Earlier this week, the Minister noted that the platinum mining companies were considering a new unpublished wage proposal from AMCU, which had started its strike  on the platinum belt on January 23.
