JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The strike at platinum producer Northam Platinum’s Zondereinde mine, in Limpopo, which was currently in its eleventh week, and has cost the miner R500-million in lost revenue and mineworkers R100-million in lost wages, continued on Tuesday, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said.

Following a lengthy meeting between Northam and the NUM under the auspices of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) on Monday, the NUM stated that it would meet with its members on Wednesday morning.

At this meeting, NUM members would be briefed about the outcomes of the CCMA meeting, after which the union would, once again, meet with the mining company.

NUM chief negotiator at Northam Platinum Ecliff Tantsi stated that the union was not in a position to divulge the outcomes of the latest CCMA meeting until after the meeting with its members.
