Lighting solution provided to Mpumalanga coal mine

CONVEYOR LIGHTING Robust LEDNOVA-MINI industrial luminaires were installed to illuminate conveyor systems
Locally designed and manufactured BEKA Schréder luminaires were selected to meet the project’s technical specifications, ensuring optimal performance and the best lumen-watt efficiency for each application.
Robust LEDNOVA-MINI industrial luminaires were installed to illuminate the conveyor systems.
Designed for optimal photometric performance and long-term reliability, the LEDNOVA range significantly reduces energy consumption and maintenance requirements across a wide range of demanding environments. Suitable for use in outdoor mining areas, oil and gas refineries, food and beverage plants, manufacturing facilities and other heavy-duty applications, the LEDNOVA ensures high-quality illumination with reduced disability glare, improving overall visual comfort and safety. In addition, certain models in the LEDNOVA range are available for use in hazardous locations requiring Zone 1, 2 or 21/22-rated luminaires.
Providing illumination for the roads running alongside the conveyors are BEKA Schréder’s LEDLUME 3 streetlights.
Available in four sizes, the LEDLUME range delivers superior photometric performance and a low total cost of ownership. It is the ideal choice for applications seeking reduced energy use, improved lighting levels and low maintenance. With a wide selection of high-efficiency optics, LEDLUME offers tailored light distributions to suit specific project requirements, ensuring energy savings and performance.
To ensure effective and uniform illumination for safe movement along the staircases of the mine’s transfer towers, LEDNOVA-MIDI LED bulkhead luminaires were installed.
To provide general area lighting, BEKA Schréder specified its LEDFLOOD floodlights.
Their marine-grade, high- pressure die-cast aluminium housing makes them durable and well-suited for harsh environmental conditions.
Inside the transfer towers, a combination of BEKA VAPOURLINE industrial LED luminaires and LEDNOVA-MINI bulkheads ensures reliable illumination.
The BEKA VAPOURLINE is a robust and efficient LED alternative to traditional T5/T8 fluorescent fixtures. Engineered for long-term performance in demanding industrial environments, BEKA VAPOURLINE features a strong mechanical design that resists shock and vibration. With its high Ingress Protection rating, the BEKA VAPOURLINE is ideal for dusty and wet locations. In addition to durability, it delivers good visual comfort with low glare and a high colour rendering index, creating safe and productive working conditions.
Together, BEKA Schréder says these luminaires ensure well-lit and safe transfer structures, improving visibility and operational efficiency.
Underground Tunnels, Haulages, Substations & Roads
The BEKA VAPOURLINE and ROUGHGUARD vandal-resistant linear LED luminaires have been installed to illuminate the underground tunnels and haulages of the coal mine.
Engineered for industrial, corrosive and harsh environments, the ROUGHGUARD is specifically designed to withstand challenging conditions while delivering reliable and efficient lighting performance. Its durable construction ensures long-term resistance to corrosion and impact, providing consistent illumination exactly where it is needed most.
The interiors of the mine’s substations are illuminated with BEKA VAPOURLINE luminaires, while the exteriors are equipped with BEKABULK bulkhead luminaires.
Designed for industrial and public lighting applications, the BEKABULK combines efficiency, vandal resistance and mechanical reliability. It is certified for use in Zone 2 and 21/22 applications, making it the ideal solution for potentially explosive environments and underground mining routes.
For the roads surrounding the mine, the LEDLUME 1 luminaires were selected to provide reliable, energy-efficient roadway lighting.
