JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed Botswana Diamonds and its joint venture (JV) partner, Russian diamond major, Alrosa, have identified two specific targets through the exploration programme on their 50:50 owned 2.9 km2 PL117 licence area in Orapa, Botswana.

Botswana Diamonds chairperson John Teeling on Thursday revealed that the first of these targets, AN117/2, would be drilled in September this year, while the JV would simultaneously undertake further work to identify the exact drill site for the second target, AN117/1.

Alrosa’s technology defined these targets as having high potential to be new kimberlite discoveries.

Teeling added that three further anomalies had also been identified through the first phase of analysis as being highly promising; however, further work was needed to define drill targets.

“This is what we hoped for from the collaboration with Alrosa. New eyes, new ideas and new techniques bringing a fresh approach to exploring the best diamond region in the world,” he stated.
