The seventh yearly Joburg Indaba has firmly solidified its place as the local mining conference of choice among key mining industry players.

The two-day conference will take place on October 2 and 3 at the Inanda Club in Sandton, Johannesburg.

Organised by resources investment conferences company Resources 4 Africa, this intimate, yet constructive conference has established itself as one of those “must-attend” events and is poised to sell out before the conference’s first day, says Resources 4 Africa CEO Paula Munsie.

She adds that, in keeping up with the niche event format, the company expects about 600 delegates to attend this year.

“With the success that this event has garnered over the years, we are able to attract headline speakers from every level of the industry stakeholder chain,” Munsie comments, adding that delegates can be assured of quality conversations and engaging discussions.

This year, the Joburg Indaba will consider how the mining industry landscape is changing in terms of expansions, divestments and the potential opportunities they create.

Resources 4 Africa believes that it is time for collective critical discussions on a range of topics, specifically amid the economic challenges facing South Africa and its African peers.

“We will unpack macroeconomic factors affecting the industry and address key questions, such as how the current energy and transport challenges influence mining operation; how the global shift towards a low-carbon economy is affecting mining in Africa; as well as what mining companies should be doing to promote a culture of environmental and social responsibility and good governance,” Munsie enthuses.

Other aspects, such as winning back the trust of investors will also be unpacked.

“We would like to see a collective move forward by industry stakeholders to drive positive change in the current economic conditions.

“The Joburg Indaba will be a platform for vibrant views and insights, delivered by diverse speakers. Good humour and repartee, along with constructive engagement and frank and informal discussions will be a stand-out feature of the Indaba,” Munsie concludes.
