JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed Savannah Resources on Thursday announced that that it had completed the ground magnetic test survey at its 180 km2 Jangamo heavy mineral sands (HMS) project, in Mozambique, with results underpinning the project’s potential to host a “major” HMS deposit.

Savannah CEO David Archer said the success of the ground magnetic test programme over the anomalous drill holes returned from the scout drilling programme was important to the overall speed and cost of the exploration programme for the Jangamo project.

The company also said the results of the survey demonstrated that it was possible to detect the geophysical signature of the HMS deposits by using an airborne platform, which would rapidly advance and lower the cost of the project.

Therefore, Savannah would start conducting a heliborne magnetic and radiometric survey during the first half of next month.

“The heliborne magnetic survey will help us define the overall mineralised system and more importantly any potential reworked strand lines, which will carry higher-grade HMS,” Archer said.

Meanwhile, the second scout drilling programme for the project was also expected to start in the second half of next month.

“The project is now poised for further positive results as our 2014 exploration programme is rolled out,” Archer said.
