Innomotics showcases integrated technology for more sustainable mining
Innomotics country director Tim Walwyn spoke with Engineering News & Mining Weekly during the Electra Mining Africa event, held in Johannesburg from September 7 to 11, 2026. Camerawork: Miko Moodley. Editing: Nicholas Boyd.
As mining companies across Africa seek to improve productivity, energy efficiency and environmental performance, the integration of electrification, automation and digitalisation technologies is becoming increasingly important.
Innomotics, drawing on more than 150 years of German engineering heritage, provides electric motors and drive systems alongside engineered electrical, automation, digital and energy solutions for the mining industry.
The company supports mining customers across the project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and engineering through to commissioning, modernisation and lifecycle support, with a focus on improving operational performance and asset reliability.
In South Africa, Innomotics has supported industrial development since the early growth of the country's mining industry. Today, its Johannesburg regional headquarters is supported by a team of about 80 specialists serving customers across South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.
The company provides electrical drive technology systems to the mining, cement, process, energy and infrastructure sectors, combining its global technology portfolio with local engineering and execution capabilities.
These local capabilities include engineering, assembly, warehousing and technical services, allowing Innomotics to support both new projects and the modernisation and extension of existing assets.
A key focus is helping mining companies improve the reliability and efficiency of critical equipment while ensuring projects are delivered safely and to the required technical standards.
As the mining industry moves towards increasingly connected, efficient and sustainable operations, Innomotics is positioning integrated electrification, automation and digitalisation as key enablers of this transition.
Through its combination of international technology expertise and local capabilities, the company aims to help mining customers build safer, more efficient and reliable operations while supporting their longer-term sustainability objectives.
Innomotics country director Tim Walwyn spoke with Engineering News & Mining Weekly during the Electra Mining Africa event, held in Johannesburg from September 7 to 11, 2026.
