Harmony reports loss-of-life incident at Moab Khotsong mine
Gold miner Harmony Gold Mining Company has announced that an employee at its Moab Khotsong mine near Orkney lost his life in a seismicity-related fall-of-ground incident on the morning of June 19.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. Management is providing support to the family and affected employees during this difficult time.
All relevant stakeholders have been notified.
“An investigation, led by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR), is under way,” the company says in a statement.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague. Our heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends and colleagues during this very difficult time. Safety is our foremost priority and we will work closely with the DMPR to understand the circumstances of this incident and ensure the necessary lessons are applied across our operations,” CEO Beyers Nel comments.
