Group showcases full business platform at Mining Indaba

ALLAN WIDLAKE The Mining Indaba provides insight into development on the African continent
INCREASING VISIBILITY Visibility involves demonstrating the service offering of the Murray & Roberts Group to the mining industry at the indaba
International engineering, contracting and construction services provider Murray & Roberts Group will have all four of its business platforms showcased for the first time at this year’s Investing in African Mining Indaba, which will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from February 3 to 6.
The four business platforms, include Construction Australasia Oil & Gas and Minerals, Engineering Africa, Construction Africa and the Middle East, and Construction Global Mining.
“We hope our customers and potential clients will gain an understanding of the full range of the group’s service offering from the Mining Indaba. “We want to ensure that delegates gain a proper appreciation of the depth and strength of our organisation and its ability to operate across mining infrastructure, building and civil engineering, as well as the energy sector,” says group shaft sinking, contract mining, raise- and shaft-boring technology and services division Murray & Roberts Cementation business development executive Allan Widlake.
He notes that the group will be represented in the oil and gas construction services mar- ket at this year’s event, also for the first time.
“Murray & Roberts’ Construction Aus-tralasia Oil & Gas and Minerals platform consists of the group’s 64% direct investment in Australia-based integrated engineering, procurement and construction contractor Clough, which focuses on oil and gas in Australia and South East Asia,” Widlake explains.
He highlights that the group’s principal aim for the Mining Indaba is to increase its visibility to the global mining market and to use this as a base from which the group can interact with existing and potential clients at the event.
“Visibility is connected to demonstrating the service offerings we have,” Widlake notes, adding that the group also hopes to gain an understanding of potential opportunities in the African mining industry.
Meanwhile, he points out that the Mining Indaba is Africa’s premier mining event at which all mining houses are represented. “These representatives offer information about imminent and future investments, while investors and commodity advisors forecast the conditions that are likely to prevail in the industry for this year.
“The Mining Indaba brings these key industry players together in an environment that focuses on investment and on future market conditions. “For Murray & Roberts Cementation, this is the most important issue to understand, as it is a service provider in industry and not an equipment or consumable supplier,” Widlake says.
He adds that talks concerning projected commodity industry developments will be of particular interest, as they will better prepare the group to meet future market developments and also identify the commodity sectors most likely to receive finance for expansion or new projects.
“Events like this demonstrate the openness of certain countries to invest and this creates an understanding of where developments are likely to take place,” concludes Widlake.
